Children's Events start at 6pm
Parade starts at 7pm
Collinsville CT - The 14th annual Historic
Collinsville Halloween Parade is scheduled to commence at 7pm on Saturday, October 27th, 2007.
Ghouls, monsters, ghosts, and zombies of all ages will congregate
at the Canton Hysterical (Historical) museum at precisely 7pm (Children's activities begin at 6 pm), where Boosilini, (AKA
Jon Art) the Monster of Ceremonies, will address the crowd.
The ghastly gathering, gaurded by Goons, will proceed down
main street, led by a chariot drawing the Phantom of the Opera. The Phantom (Mark Mercier, keyboardist with the Max Creek
Band) will perform haunting music from an opera organ.
A highlight of the annual parade is the costume contest, which
includes prizes for "funniest", "scariest", "most original", and the coveted, "best in show".
This year's new Main
Street Midway highlights include:
- The Gates of Terror
- Voodoo Island and the Drumming Circle
- An Electric Chair
- The Spooky Booth/The Visualizer
- The Can-Can Cantina
- The Zombie Cage
- Rubber People
and Breakdancing Ghouls
- Stilt Walkers and Fire Dancing presented by Matica Arts
- The Hideous Heads: A series of ghoulish eight-foot-tall murals
- And, as always, the Collinsville artists will
endeavor to replace every
“normal” white light
bulb in the quaint town, with spooky orange light bulbs.
NEW THIS YEAR! - CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES
BEGIN at 6pm
Unique to this years event is a pre-event for families with young children. From 6-7pm in the parking
lot in front of Downright Music & Art, an outdoor mask making arts & crafts event will take place. Children & teens are invited to bring their PRE-CARVED pumpkins
for exhibition in THE PUMPKIN GALLERY, an ourdoor tabletop exhibit of carved pumpkins. Prizes will be awarded
in many categories. From 6pm - 7pm children will also be invited to decorate festive masks with paints, glitter, feathers,
etc.
The historic Collinsville Halloween Parade was lovingly founded twelve years ago by a dedicated group of Collinsville
artists. Since its founding, the free, fun, family-oriented event continues to draw thousands of residents from across New
England. The event is merely one example of the fact that Collinsville treasures its traditions, and celebrates the dedicated
volunteers who strive to keep those traditions alive.
In honor of the 13th anniversary of this parade, the Canton Library
will showcase an exhibit featuring 13 years of Halloween Parade posters, designed by Jon Squire (Boosillini.) This unique
art exhibit will run through the month of November.
